New Docs

Mission: Reaching Out in Hope
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 6 | Shortly After Leaving New Bajor

Callum had spent his first hour aboard the Sentinel finishing up patient files for his last posting. SB 744 was a massive installation and as such the doctors all had significant patient loads, despite dedicating a lot of time in the two weeks between his transfer orders coming in and his reporting aboard his new ship he still had paperwork to finish off.

Finally he was making his way to sickbay, both to check out the facilities and hopefully report in to the Chief. Entering sickbay he smiled to a woman with JG pips. "Good morning, is the Chief in?"

Eleanor shook her head at the new arrival. "Not just at the moment. Can I help you with anything?"

"Callum McIntyre," he said extending a hand, "One of the new MOs who gave aboard at New Bajor. I just wanted to formally report in."

Doctor Bennett shook his offered hand. "Eleanor Bennett. I'm one of the surgeon's here. Welcome aboard."

"Thanks." He replied, "I've done my fair share of surgical rotations so if you ever need an extra set of hands give me a call." He began to wander the sickbay checking out the facilities, the Intrepid-class' sickbay was a small compact set up. "I take it we don't have much more in the way of facilities past the main sickbay."

Eleanor watched as her new colleague began checking out the primary medical facility. "Sentinel's a standard Intrepid-class Starship. We have the main sickbay, an ICU, a surgical suite and a Doctor's lounge. Nothing to write home about." She shrugged. "Where were you before this?"

"Last posting was SB 744 for three years, before that I did a tour on the Ottawa which was also an Intrepid." He replied, "What about you?"

Her last posting had been very different. "My last assignment was on the Relentless, a Defiant-class ship. This place is practically palatial in comparison." Eleanor smiled and folded her arms. "I imagine this must be quite a comedown for you, to go from the sprawling facilities of a Starbase to the rather more modest ones on an Intrepid-class ship?"

"It's a nice change to be honest, I missed the exploring side of Starfleet, life as a medical officer on a station is a lot more family doc, we had a decent sized civilian population to take care of. I had a brief tour of a defiant once, the whole experience made me a little claustrophobic." Callum replied.

Doctor Bennett smiled. She could fully understand Callum's problem with the cramped conditions on Starfleet's Defiant-class ships. It had taken her some time to adjust but once she did, she'd found herself enjoying living in such close proximity to her colleagues. "I actually miss my old quarters. I'm still sharing onboard the Sentinel but we have separate rooms instead of a bunk. I feel like I have too much room."

Callum laughed, "I managed to get my own, not sure how that worked out, but I'm not complaining, they're less than half the size of my quarters on the station, they're taking some getting use to. I apparently collected to much crap during my time on the station."

"Another good thing about serving on a Defiant-class ship. You learn to live light. I have only one or two mementos of home. All I need, really." She told him. "I'm sure you'll like it here. The medical staff is great, though the CMO is new himself. Our former Chief was an old friend of mine so I guess we'll be getting to know the new one together."

Callum nodded, "I'm looking forward to this assignment, I was offered Assistant Chief on the USS Rutledge, I declined she hasn't left the core systems in almost 10 years, I much rather get to be out here, see something new. Hopefully not a plague." He joked.

"Well the Dominion have been known to use plague's and blights as punishment for resistance so who knows what we'll encounter on this side of the wormhole" She replied with a wry smile.

"Let's hope not." Callum said. "Well, thank you Doc, I guess there isn't much more for me to do until I can report in to the Chief. If you see him let him know I was looking for him."

Eleanor nodded. "Sure thing. I'll see you around."
