Mission: Reaching Out in Hope
Location: briefing room -USS Sentinel

"Sir, if I may," replied Simon looking at the XO, " I was not being nasty about that, I am just worried about my staff at the moment," as he remained seated, as Simon knew that overworking staff constantly was bad, but he knew that was the life they had chosen to take and knew the risks, but not giving them time to get into a proper raytham on the ship. but he knew that life on the ship had to be able to have some time to relax even he had to have some as he knew that when his own shift ended he would go to the mess hall for a beer and chill out, that was unless he was swamped at work.

"I know," replied Bast. "But I said it twice already in the briefing. Assigning your engineers to work double shifts at this time would be putting the cart before the horse. First, we need Sciences to go over the data and determine if there's anything worth doing. Then you, Lieutenant Ross and Lieutenant Armstrong will go over what they've found, and see if there's anything that can be implemented quickly, without pulling into a spacedock, and design the implementation plans. Only once that's done will you assign any engineers to do the actual work. So until that time, it's business as usual. If you say we're all caught up on the leftovers from the refit, then it's regular maintenance."

"Fair enough Sir, I just want my teams to get used to thier shift patterns" replied Simon as he looked back at Bast as he continued," and I want final say on the plans if I think they are workable," as he didn't want to implement something into the ship and then it damaged the ship.

"You'll be consulted and your advice will be sollicited and given careful consideration, but final say rests with the Captain," stated the First Officer, "And your team will, of course, have plenty of time to get used to their shift patterns, but as Starfleet officers, they should also be trained to expect the unexpected, and irregular shift schedules are part of the deal."

"Sir, I am not going to implement things into this ship that I consider dangerous to this ship," replied Simon as he had drills to run down in Main engineering, "But if I am told to I will," he finished as he didn't like this one bit as he was the one that held this ship together.

"Lieutenant," replied Bast, "do you seriously believe the Captain would order us to implement any modification that might pose a threat to this ship?"

"No Sir I don't" replied Simon looking at the Sentinel's XO, He continued, "But I do want the right to pull it if I consider it a danger to the ship after 6 months," as he knew that by offering that as a compromise might go a long way.

"Let's start by making sure we survive six months in the gamma Quadrant," replied Bast.

He gave a final nod, signaling the end of the meeting.
